About Dalhousie

Dalhousie, a hill station in western Himachal Pradesh is full of old-world charm and carries lingering echoes of the British Raj. It covers an area of about 14 sq km and is set amidst five hills KATHLOG, POTREYN, TEHRA, BAKROTA AND BALUN. Dalhousie was named after the British Governor-General of the 19thcentury, Lord Dalhousie.

The altitude of Dalhousie varies between 1,525 m and 2,378 m, and diverse vegetation-like Pines, Deodars, Oaks, and flowering rhododendron cover this. Dalhousie has charming colonial architecture, including some beautiful churches. Its location presents panoramic views of the plains and like a long silver line, “RIVER RAVI” twists and turns below Dalhousie. The spectacular snow-wrapped Pirpanjal Mountains are also visible from this town of awesome natural splendor. 

Flora & Fauna of Dalhousie:

It is very rich in biodiversity of flora & fauna. It is home of many animals like the Himalayan Black and Brown Bears, Barking Deer, Leopard, Ghural, Musk Deer, GreyLangurs, Rhesus Macaques, etc.  As well as many beautiful birds like Himalayan Monal, Koklass Pheasant, Kalij Pheasant, Yellow-billed Blue Magpie, Woodpeckers, Black-headed Jay, etc you can find here. However, the forest is so thick that you need the luck to see any of these animals and birds. In flora also you can find here different kinds of Wild Flowers, Devdar, Pine, Oak, Rhododendron, etc.
